What is the first thing that appears in your mind when you think of fitness results? Burning more calories, reducing body fat, to look better? To maintain a healthy life, gratitude and fitness go hand in hand.

When you’re on the route to transform your body, it’s logical to catch the flaws you’d like to change. While it’s good to have specific goals, being in a constant state of self-criticism won’t get us far. When you remain laser-focused on those perceived flaws and weaknesses, you’ll finally lose sight of your body’s many strengths and capabilities.

Gratitude is the foundation for long-lasting success irrespective of what you do. It has myriad effects on your body and mind.

  1. It makes you tougher:

All of us have rough moments in our lives, but it’s the way we handle those challenges that make a difference in our lives. Gratitude blocks toxic emotions, such as envy, resentment, regret, and depression, which can destroy your happiness.

2. It reduces your stress:

Whenever you set a goal for yourselves, there is a ton of self-pressure that develops with it. Invoking a thought of gratitude steadies your breathing and eases you.

3. It raises confidence:

Confidence is everything. Positive thoughts breed extra confidence and help finish your tasks with a sense of satisfaction.

Now that I’ve established the importance of confidence, let us look at some ways to practice gratitude in our workouts:

  1. Don’t associate your fitness journey with your physical attributes:

Whenever you feel discouraged about not achieving your fitness goals, you blame your bodies for not being effective, and this turns into an endless loop of negativity and self-criticism. Your body can do a lot of things, you just need to give yourselves time. It’s about the journey and not the goal.

2. Celebrate your small successes as well:

The minor victories deserve a round of applause. This might be about switching from eating burgers to broccoli for dinner or walking for another half a mile. Honor yourself for those small wins.

  1. Start a journal:

Words are the best way to express your gratitude. At the end of the day, take a few minutes to jot down in a journal about how your body has served you.

Whatever stage you are in your journey, there is always something to be grateful for. We know it’s not always easy. But by adopting some positive-minded strategies, you can look past what’s wrong and see all the admirable — and even downright miraculous — things it does for you everyday.
